What does the word "believe" really mean

We've Mistranslated "Believe" for 500 Years

The Greek word pisteuo (believe or faith) doesn't mean what you think it means.

When Jesus says "believe in me," He's not asking you to check a theological box.

❤️‍🔥 He's asking you to throw your entire weight on Him—like stepping off a ledge into His arms. ❤️‍🔥

Pisteuo is the verb form of pistis (faith). It means to trust, cling to, rely upon, commit your whole being to.

Somewhere along the way, we turned "believe" into something that happens between your ears.

But biblical faith was never a head game—it was a full-body commitment.

James 2:19 lands differently when you realize this:

"Even the demons believe—and shudder."

Demons have great theology.

They know exactly who Jesus is.

🚫 But they don't pisteuo.

🚫 They don't entrust themselves to Him.
