The perfect dictatorship will have the appearance of a democracy

Have we already arrived at this point in Australia & other Western nations?

 One view: Modern societies use entertainment, consumer choice, and mass media primarily to provide leisure, stimulate economic activity, and give people greater freedom over how they spend their lives.

 Aldous Huxley's perspective: Huxley explored a different possibility: that social control might become most effective when people are conditioned to enjoy the very systems that limit them.

In Brave New World, stability is maintained not primarily through overt terror, but through conditioning, consumption, pleasure, distraction, and the removal of uncomfortable forms of thought.

 My View: A society does not need to ban every idea to weaken dissent. If people become so saturated with entertainment, consumption, distraction, and manufactured desires that serious reflection feels unbearable, control can become largely self-maintaining.

The most sophisticated form of domination may be the one people mistake for freedom.
