Iran is now labeling Christian converts “𝘡𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘴”, “𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘪𝘨𝘯 𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴”, and “𝘔𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘢𝘥 𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴” — then charging them with a death-eligible offense for preaching the Gospel. The Foundation for Defense of Democracies documented 𝟐𝟓𝟒 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 — nearly double 2024’s total — with most coming after Iran’s defeat in the June Twelve Day War as the regime searched for internal enemies to blame.

Of those arrested, 53 face charges of “𝘮𝘰𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘣𝘦𝘩” — enmity against God — an offense that carries a potential 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 under Iranian Sharia law. Iranian state media announced the arrest of what it called the “𝘮𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴” of a Christian evangelistic network. Security forces have raided house churches, shut down Persian-language congregations, and focused particularly on Muslim converts to Christianity, who are treated as apostates and intelligence assets simultaneously.

The crackdown accelerated sharply after June 2025. Iran’s underground church had grown significantly in the prior years — hundreds of thousands of Iranians quietly leaving Islam. When the regime lost the military confrontation, it redoubled the internal one, treating every convert as a foreign intelligence asset and every house church as a Mossad front.

The pattern is not coincidental. Iran calls Christians enemies of the state. It calls Jews enemies of the state. It calls Israel an enemy of the state. The common thread is the regime’s determination to 𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐲 before it can take hold.
